Get back to life, get back to movement
Dr Wagdy Ashaia is an Australian-trained orthopaedic surgeon with extensive experience across New South Wales and Queensland. After completing his primary medical degree in medicine and surgery, he pursued his passion for orthopaedics through a Master of Orthopaedic Surgery, and has since dedicated his career to advancing patient care in both public hospital settings and specialised units, including the Royal North Shore Hospital Hand Unit and Westmead Children’s Hospital.
Driven by a strong commitment to research and evidence-based practice, Dr Ashaia completed a Master of Clinical Epidemiology at the University of Newcastle, graduating with Distinction. This training further enhanced his expertise in research methodology and clinical outcomes.
Following the completion of his orthopaedic training in Sydney, he was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS). He then undertook two advanced Australian fellowships in Foot and Ankle Surgery, Lower Limb Reconstruction, Deformity Correction, and Hip, Knee and Ankle Arthroplasty. These fellowships provided him with in-depth expertise in managing complex lower limb conditions, using state-of-the-art techniques such as minimally invasive surgery, preoperative 3D modelling and planning, and computer- and robotic-assisted surgery.
Alongside his clinical work, Dr Ashaia is deeply committed to teaching and mentoring the next generation of doctors. He is a Conjoint Lecturer at the School of Medicine, Western Sydney University, where he works closely with medical students. In hospital settings, he regularly provides personalised teaching, small group training, and mentorship for junior doctors and other health professionals.
Dr Ashaia sees patients with orthopaedic-related presentations. He focuses on collaborating with patients on their care aiming to meet their individual needs and expectations.
Through his caring approach and thorough assessment and investigation of the patient’s condition, Dr Ashaia will explain all the available options and provide the time to consider what’s best.
